ABOUT THE WATER POLLUTION CONTROL CENTER
CITY OF TIFFIN COLLECTION SYSTEM AND MAINTENANCE

The City of Tiffin’s sewer maintenance crew is a division of the Department of Public Works, located at 601 Miami Street, Tiffin.  Superintendent Susan Kuhn and Assistant Superintendent Michael Hoffman handle both the street maintenance and sewer maintenance. 

 

Kuhn is a long-time employee of the Department Works, while Hoffman transferred from his position of Assistant Superintendent at the Water Pollution Control Center to Public Works.  He holds Class I wastewater collections and operator licenses from the Ohio EPA.

Lift stations which pump sewage from lower lying areas to higher areas and on to the treatment plant, along with combined sewer overflows, are inspected three times per week to ensure they are operating as designed.  Maintenance issues are relayed to the WPCC electrician and mechanic for action.

WATER POLLUTION CONTROL CENTER STAFF
The staff of the WPCC has a variety of talents and educational backgrounds which provide for a well-operated and maintained facility.  The following personnel are on staff as of December 20, 2007:

Dan McElhatten, WPCC Superintendent.  Graduate of Galion High School and attended Ohio State University.  Navy veteran of 8+ years.  Holds a Class III Ohio EPA Wastewater Works license and Class IV OWEA laboratory certification, earning a Class II collection systems license in 1996 and holds a Class A water treatment license.

Kevin Hughes,   Assistant Superintendent. Graduate of Mohawk High School, Sycamore, Ohio and has an associate’s degree in environmental management from Owens Community College.  Holds a Class III Ohio EPA Wastewater Works license and Class I OWEA laboratory certification

Butler Stephens Jr., Pretreatment Technician/Laboratory Technician.  Graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and Marine Corps veteran.  Holds a Class I Ohio EPA Wastewater Works license. 

Gary Gaietto, Plant Operator/Mechanic.  Graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.  Holds a Class I Ohio EPA Wastewater Works license.

Richard Parman, Plant Electrician.  Graduate of Oak Harbor High School in Oak Harbor, Ohio and retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant.  Holds a Class I Ohio EPA Wastewater Works license and has an associates degree in electrical power systems.

Mark Keller, Laboratory Technician. Graduate of Columbian High School, attended Tiffin University. Former employee of American Standard where he spent time in the laboratory.

Christopher Borer, Plant Operator.  Graduate of Calvert High School and Sentinel Vocational School, Tiffin.  Holds a Class I Ohio EPA Wastewater Works license.

Dan Kuhn, Plant Operator.  Graduate of New Riegel High School, New Riegel, Ohio.  Experienced in the construction and electrical trades, Dan holds a Class II Ohio EPA Collection Works license.
